SWE-DISH spearheads new class of satellite terminals
SWE-DISH
Satellite Systems' groundbreaking Suitcase family has created a new
class of small, suitcase sized, highly mobile, automated satellite
terminals. These are used by e.g. broadcasters and defense
organizations.
Traditionally, satellite terminals have been categorized into three classes: transportables (large, but can be disassembled), fly-aways (smaller, easily assembled and disassembled, with manual alignment), and drive-aways (mounted on the roof of a vehicle and often automated). A new fourth class of small, automated satellite terminals has emerged over the last few years. These terminals are much smaller, more mobile, and more automated, if compared to traditional fly-away satellite terminals.
The SWE-DISH Suitcase has pioneered this new fourth class. There are several indications that this spearhead effort has hit a cord with users and by now created an own class:
| · | The Suitcase has received vast customer endorsement, with well over 100 units sold or on order. They are used by numerous leading broadcasters and several defense organizations, e.g. US Special Operations Command |
| The Suitcase has received endorsement of control bodies (Intelsat Type Approval , Eutelsat Type Approval, FCC License and EuropeStar Type Approval) | |
| · | The Suitcase has matured into a range of three different terminals to meet varying customer needs: the IP prepared IPT Suitcase, the lower cost DVB Suitcase, and the military specified IPT Mil Suitcase |
| · | Competitors are now following and launching own offerings into this class |
"The Suitcase was developed in close cooperation with our customers, and we are pleased with the reception it has received. It is popular since it gives "connectivity in one box". Customers' and competitors' reactions shows that there is a demand for this type of terminal. It also forces us not to be complacent, but to continue to drive development", says Lars Jehrlander CEO, SWE-DISH Satellite Systems.
"Today, there is no name for this class. But we have a suspicion what it will be called!", Lars Jehrlander concludes.
