SWE-DISH is launching the DVB Suitcase

SWE-DISH Satellite System’s unique Suitcase satellite terminal has revolutionized the way journalists and others can report live from remote locations. The company is now adding a new member to the family: the DVB Suitcase. It will be presented for the first time at NAB, Las Vegas, April 19-22.

SWE-DISH Satellite Systems, a world-leading supplier of mobile satellite communications equipment for broadband applications, is adding the DVB Suitcase to its Suitcase product family. The DVB Suitcase is targeting journalists and others that want to cost effectively transmit live reports from remote locations.

- With the DVB Suitcase we want to give broadcasters a cost effective, yet easy to use, quick to air and highly portable satellite terminal. Essentially it is a lower cost version of the highly popular and proven IPT Suitcase, says Lars Jehrlander, CEO.

The SWE-DISH DVB Suitcase satellite system compresses the functionality of a fly-away system into the world’s most compact and quickest-to-air satellite terminals. The system allows 3 to 6 Mbps DVB transmission. A recommended small sized DVB encoder package is available as an option; alternatively existing standard DVB encoders can be used. The DVB Suitcase is future proof and can later be upgraded to the IPT Suitcase, giving it built-in broadband IP transmit and receive functionality.

It shares many feature with its sibling – the IPT Suitcase. It is easy-to-use with a web based graphical interface for operations and fully automated and motorized antenna pointing. It is quick-to-air, and is deployed for live satellite transmission in less than 5 minutes. It is highly portable, weighting less than 40 kg and being no bigger than a hand baggage.

- The Suitcase has been a huge success, and it is clearly the leader in its class. We have sold to a large number to Broadcasters, and a substantial amount of the coverage from Iraq today is sent using Suitcases. Not only has it been used in the dusty deserts of the Middle East, but it has been used by customers in the humid heat of Equatorial Africa, and been up Mount Everest twice.  Not so bad for such a small little fellow, concludes Lars Jehrlander, CEO.

“Asian countries are traditionally often early adopters. But I think it also goes beyond that. Several of these countries work on extremely competitive markets, and the IPT Suitcase helps them getting an edge in attracting the attention of their audiences”, says Dan Dia-Tsi-Tay, head of SWE-DISH’s Hong-Kong office.
